Facebook is Shutting Down Its Personal Assistant M

Facebook started its text-based virtual assistant M back in August of 2015 and after two and a half year of development, the project is finally endmost downwards. According to a post published on the Verge, January 19 will exist the last day for M.

For those who don't know, before Google Assistant became truly useful and when Amazon's Alexa was still in its nascent phase, Facebook introduced M which was a personal banana inside the Messenger app. But, the personal assistant wasn't really powered past AI, rather it used humans to respond all the questions. Facebook was hoping that in fourth dimension, the humans behind Yard will be able to train Yard into becoming a totally contained machine-based personal assistant. However, it seems that Facebook's plans didn't come to a fruition as the company has now officially decided to close down the product.

The development doesn't come equally a surprise as the service never really took off. Fifty-fifty after two and one-half years of evolution, the service was however in its experimental phase and was only available to 2000 odd users living in California. Those users are now receiving notifications from Thousand that the service will no longer exist bachelor.

Co-ordinate to Verge, Facebook released a statement in which the visitor said,

"We launched this project to learn what people needed and expected of an assistant, and we learned a lot. Nosotros're taking these useful insights to power other AI projects at Facebook. Nosotros continue to exist very pleased with the performance of One thousand suggestions in Messenger, powered by our learnings from this experiment."

Conspicuously, the company could not make G successful and is now killing the whole department.

Equally to why M was not really successful, nosotros tin merely guess. But the fact remains that AI assistant confined to apps is still something that does not entreatment to mass users. Which is why Amazon and Google are working and then difficult to tie-up device manufacturers for their assistants.

The dream of having a true AI-based personal banana that can exist used on whatever platform will notwithstanding have years before condign a reality.
